Charles B. Wright was an American computer scientist who is best known for inventing the data structure known as the hash table. He received his bachelor's degree in physics from Carnegie Mellon University and his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Maryland. Wright worked at Bell Labs, where he developed the hash table as a method for quickly accessing data in a computer's memory. His contributions to the field of computer science have helped make modern computing faster, more efficient, and more versatile. In addition to his work on hash tables, Wright also contributed to the development of the UNIX operating system and worked on programming languages such as ALTRAN and B.
